JUST IN / Former Republican Gov. Officially Joins the Democrat Party !!

Short answer: yes—former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan publicly announced he’s now a Democrat. He made it official in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution op-ed on Aug. 5, 2025, saying his shift is rooted in faith (“love thy neighbor”) and policy disagreements with today’s GOP.

Georgia doesn’t register voters by party, but Duncan also told the AJC he no longer wants to be associated with the GOP; the paper’s news write-up summarized the switch and context.

This caps a years-long break: as lieutenant governor he rejected Trump’s false fraud claims in 2020, later endorsed the Democratic ticket in 2024, and was formally expelled by Georgia Republicans earlier this year.

So the headline claim (“he’s now a Democrat”) is accurate; the rest—about motives or “election integrity”—is opinion. The record shows he opposed efforts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 results and says his move reflects policy and values, not a sudden pivot.
