An elderly Democratic Congresswoman fainted on the House floor while protesting Trump’s BBB.

An elderly Democratic Congresswoman reportedly collapsed on the House floor while fiercely protesting the passage of the “Big Beautiful Bill” (BBB) and delivering a passionate speech. In her rant, she accused Republicans of being pressured into backing the legislation, claiming it would lead to numerous deaths.

Rep. Jan Schakowsky, 81, from Illinois, fell while speaking out against the bill after its passage, referring to it as the “Big Ugly Bill.” She argued that the bill would result in tens of thousands of deaths and harshly criticized House Republicans for being “bullied” into supporting it. The incident was first reported by independent journalist Ken Klippenstein on July 2, 2025, on X, and it quickly gained traction.

Despite the fall, Schakowsky was unharmed and proceeded with her heated condemnation of the bill, stating that the House floor had become a “crime scene.” She claimed that the legislation would gut Medicaid, negatively impact health care for millions of Americans, and cause the deaths of 51,000 people each year. She also warned that the law would lead to hospital closures, defund Planned Parenthood, and raise energy bills for many families.

Schakowsky further emphasized the distress her constituents felt over the bill, claiming that her office was flooded with calls from people who were unsure how they would survive without Medicaid. She described the slashing of Medicaid as “heartless” and “dangerous,” and argued that it would destabilize the entire health care system.

In her final remarks, Schakowsky accused House Republicans of pushing a “reckless, partisan agenda” that would hurt vulnerable Americans, including seniors, the poor, and the sick. She warned that health care workers would lose their jobs, hospitals would close, and the bill would exacerbate care for all Americans, all to benefit the wealthy through tax cuts.

The congresswoman concluded by stating that Republicans had been “bullied” into voting for the bill by an arbitrary deadline, and she vowed that the American people would not forget the consequences. She reaffirmed her commitment to protecting the health and dignity of every American.
