Melania Trump’s Visa Sparks Accusations of Hypocrisy Against Donald Trump
Melania Trump’s immigration history is drawing fresh criticism, with some calling out former President Donald Trump for hypocrisy in light of his hardline stance on immigration.
This week, questions were raised about the former First Lady’s visa status during a public hearing. Representative Jasmine Crockett of Texas highlighted potential double standards, suggesting that Melania may have received special treatment while the Trump administration pursued aggressive deportation policies.
During a June 25 House Judiciary Committee hearing, Crockett accused the government of revoking visas from legal residents and then shifted focus to Melania, who entered the U.S. on an EB-1 visa—often dubbed the “Einstein visa.” This visa is typically reserved for individuals with exceptional achievements in fields such as science, the arts, education, or athletics.
Crockett questioned whether Melania, who became a U.S. citizen in 2006, met the high standards required for this visa category, pointing out that her modeling career did not rise to the level of global icons like Tyra Banks or Naomi Campbell. “You don’t need to be Einstein to see this doesn’t add up,” Crockett quipped.
Online, users echoed her concerns. One Reddit comment criticized the “blatant hypocrisy” of Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric, given that both Melania and his first wife were immigrants. Another questioned how the public reaction might differ if the same immigration story belonged to a Democrat’s spouse.
Some comments took a harsher tone, with one sarcastically suggesting Melania should be sent to Guantanamo Bay, and another joking about ICE arresting her outside a nail salon—pointing to the double standards in how immigrants are treated depending on their wealth and connections.
